Skye Palm Springs was named Residential Detached Project Of The Year in the 2017 Gold Nugget Awards program, which celebrated all winners June 29 in San Diego at PCBC, the homebuilding industry’s largest regional conference. Created and developed by Woodbridge Pacific Group (WPG) and Hannouche Architects, Skye Palm Springs also won Gold Nugget honors for each of its three modeled floorplans. Residence Four earned a Grand Award and Residences One and Two earned Merit Awards.

“We knew immediately that Skye Palm Springs was special, and the more we looked, the more we liked,” said Gold Nugget judge Mark Scheurer, AIA, principal of Mark Scheurer Architects in Irvine, California. “We noted an amazing level of attention to every detail of context and quality—Skye Palm Springs exceeds the highest expectations for new home design and neighborhood planning. Well done!”

The Gold Nugget Awards recognize those who improve our communities through exceptional concepts in design, planning and development. Homebuilding’s most respected competition, the 54th annual program drew 630 entries from throughout the U.S. and internationally. www.goldnuggetawards.com

Woodbridge Pacific Group Principal Todd Cunningham thanked Gold Nugget judges and Samir Hannouche, lead architect for WPG new home projects. “Samir is the most talented architect I’ve ever worked with, and these awards are a wonderful validation of our long time collaboration,” said Cunningham. “We also applaud Chameleon Design for Skye’s exceptional model home interiors. Our design/build team is truly gratified by these multiple honors, and we thank the judges.

“Skye presented us with a once in a lifetime opportunity, and this drove each floorplan design,” added Cunningham. “Our goal was to create what our focus groups desired—compelling, luxurious homes in a preferred location.”

To create this award-winning collection, Cunningham and Hannouche collaborated on updated mid century designs. “We wanted to meld the contemporary luxury of spacious great rooms, gourmet kitchens and elegant master suites with mid century’s beautiful transparency,” noted Hannouche.

This transparency relies on 12 -foot ceilings, which run uninterrupted through main activity areas to the exterior. Creating sheltered outdoor areas as unified extensions of interior spaces, the designs also feature floor to ceiling glass walls that are actually sliding panels.

WPG turned to Chameleon Design for model home interiors that would showcase the mid century style. “Skye’s interiors pay memorable homage to mid century traditions,” said Cunningham. “These classic spaces are also comfortable and very inviting.”

Priced from the mid $1 millions, Skye’s 5 designs provide 3,322 to 3,976 square feet of living space. Homesites are approximately 14,000 to 19,000 square feet, easily accommodating each home’s price-included pool and spa. Home offices, media and game rooms, dual master suites, casitas and flex rooms highlight Skye’s many lifestyle-focused optional spaces.

Integral to this lifestyle appeal is Skye’s scenic, walkable location. Framed by the San Jacinto Mountains, the enclave is in Palm Springs’ historic Tennis Club Neighborhood. The Art Museum, Convention Center and Village Fest are among walkable destinations, while nearby trails and picnic areas offer spectacular views to the city and Tahquitz Canyon.

“Skye provides the opportunity to enjoy everything that makes Palm Springs compelling—a beautiful mid century home, in an iconic, walkable downtown neighborhood,” said Cunningham. “Our entire team appreciated the opportunity offered by an incomparable location, and we are proud to honor it with these award-winning homes.”
